There is also a table on the OSHA website at “Safety Pays” which gives a conservative ratio of direct costs to indirect costs. It is used when the direct costs of an injury or claim are known. To gain a conservative estimate of the indirect costs, use the table below and the known direct costs, multiply the direct costs by the ratio (cost multiplier).

$0 - $2,999                       4.5

$3,000 - $4,999                1.6

$5,000 - $9,999                 1.2

$10,000 or more               1.1
